After many years of speculation and expectation, Honda has finally unveiled the official new 1200F IFR, VFR famous descendant, the inventor of the Sport Touring class.
The new VFR 1200F take forward the long tradition Honda V4, representing a completely different generation
from the present, in all respects. Chapter design, the new Sports Tourer Japanese faithfully comply lines V4 Concept presented last year at the Salon Intermot in Cologne. Design team was made up of three designers (two Japanese and one European): Kishi san, who signed and CBR 1100XX Super Blackbird, Hasegawa breast and Teofilo Plaza. The transition from stage to the final drawings ready for production lasted 12 months.
Japanese Sport Tourer's compact transformed into a Super Tourer V4 engine of 1.237cmc, with new technical solutions but also the full weight of 267 kg, 23 kg more than the VFR 800F, 13kg more than the main competitor BMW K 1300 S, respectively 14kg more than the last generation CBR 1100XX.
The wheelbase has been increased by 85mm and the total length of motorcycles increased by 124mm. Chapter comfort, VFR 1200F is the first motorcycle that has ergonomic adjustment of the handlebars and controls. Saddle has a height of 815 mm is available and optional but has a lower and narrower.
The new propellant develop 173 horsepower V4 to 10.000rpm and 129 Nm of torque at 8750 rpm, significantly higher values than at present. Instead of the traditional configuration V4, with equally spaced cylinders willing to front and rear, Honda has adopted a single model layout for the new engine cylinders. Thus, the rear cylinders are closer to each other than the front. This design contributes to a compact size of the back of the engine, which stands between the pilot's feet, and helps centralize masses, thus helping to ease pilotarii. Although it has far greater engine capacity, the engine is actually more compact than the 800cmc. Specific V4 engine, new propeller delivers more than 90% of maximum torque at just 4000 rpm.
The standard model will be available with a traditional manual transmission, 6-speed and slipper-clutch. Dual-clutch transmission, first used on a motorcycle, you have all 6 gears and can operate in 3 modes, two fully automatic and one manual in which the pilot will change gears using buttons located on the left handlebar controls. For the first time in the range Honda VFR 1200 will use ride-by-wire throttle.
