The original was released in 2003 and created a new market segment, where performance sports meet with comfort and versatility. Multistrada has been produced initially with 1000 DS air cooled engine, is increased but the 1100cmc in 2006. In 2009, Ducati takes the concept even further by the new Multistrada 1200.

 

The Italians wanted to produce a motorcycle that can tackle any road trip and who will use the MotoGP and World Superbike technology used, a motorcycle that has no limits and can turn to pilot needs and not vice versa. Italian engineers have chosen to use the Superbike Testastretta engine's 1198, changing it to be appropriate for any occasion. Safety is further enhanced by advanced ABS system and the DTC system, set to level 5 (moderate intervention), to obtain a stable, relaxing ride. The suspension is set for comfort, for both pilot and passenger. Urban mode to reduce power 100 horses and adjusts the suspension to city streets, full channel capacity or reduce speed bumps. The new tubular steel Trellis frame is light and 19% more rigid than that of the Multistrada 1100. It hosts a modified version of the Testastretta Evoluzione engine V2, which develops 150 hp at 9250 rpm and 118.7 Nm at 7500 rpm, a new standard in its class. The engine was modified to be used easily in all conditions and to adapt the pilot nature and not vice versa. Front brake system uses two 320mm discs and Brembo 4-piston radial calipers and a rear 245 mm disc with Brembo calipers. Available on the list is optional for the standard version and Bosch-Brembo ABS system, standard version S. wheels 17 "are the boots of the new Pirelli Scorpion Trail tires, developed specifically for Italian manufacturer for Multistrada 1200.

Suspension standard version uses an adjustable Marzocchi 50mm fork and a Sachs shock absorber adjustable, both with one stroke of 170mm. Version S uses suspension Electronics Ducati (DES) developed in collaboration with Ohlins. It comprises of a 48mm fork and a central silencer, both electronically adjustable by 170mm and a stroke. Setting can be preset so the sites developed by Ducati test riders or independently, allowing the pilot setup. Chapter comfort, Ducati has conducted extensive studies of ergonomics to get a more comfortable position for both pilot and passenger. Two storage spaces are available, one located in the lower right side of the board and one of more than 3 liters, located in the passenger seat.

The windscreen is adjustable and may be high by 60mm, to provide effective protection from wind suitable for all pilots. The tank is 20 liters capacity and offers a range of about at least 300km. The bike has 12-volt outlets in order to supply all kinds of accessories. The design is modern and dynamic new Multistrada and give a feeling of robustness.

Ducati dropped the controversial mobile windscreen of the old model. Is already classic "nose", German competitor specific element R 1200 GS, but this and the Moto Morin Granpasso.
