One American security group has submitted a formal request by the U.S. Agency for Road Safety, which motorcycles are equipped with standard ABS.

The automotive ABS's presence on new cars is a necessity, and soon, ESP stability control system will be standard, at least in Europe. In contrast, active in motorcycle safety was not a priority until now.

In America, however, things are about to change. After two years there were over 5,000 fatal accidents among motorcyclists, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Group (comprising a large number of insurance companies in the automotive field) has submitted a formal request by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (Agency National Highway Traffic Safety), which requires the imposition of compulsory fitting new ABS motorcycles.

In support of the group presented studies showing that the presence of ABS on motorcycles would have reduced the number of dead at least one third. Given that riding a motorcycle is considered more dangerous than walking away.

Until now, manufacturers of motorcycle industry were skeptical showed the introduction of ABS as standard on the grounds of an increase in average price of 1.000 USD motorcycles. In addition, the organization supports the idea that the American Motorcyclist Association's use of ABS is even dangerous in some situations, like walking on sand or gravel roads.

The main difference to the car is ABS, motorcycles for independent operation of brakes front / rear. Evaluate the system of rotation of the wheel and brake pressure applied differently, in order to avoid wheel lock. However, in certain situations off-road rider needs wheel lock and ABS prevents this.

Besides, many riders say they do not trust the ABS operation, preferring to be her "stăpânp the situation" in the event of hard braking. In contradiction, insurance institute study says that motorcyclists who had motorcycles equipped with ABS had 22% fewer complaints of accidents compared with those who had the same model, but without ABS.

The studies presented are likel y to convince the National Road Safety Agency in America do not know, but will see in the next months, when it is expected that government agencies will consider this proposal. Currently, almost all proposed models of motorcycle manufacturers offer versions with ABS, and many buyers opt for these versions.
